Well, one week to go till I leave for Ghana. Actually, I go to Philly in a week and Ghana in a week and two days.
I applied for the Peace Corps January, 2009. Yes, it took me this long to leave for my tour in June, 2010. Trust me, it has not been an easy ride. All from my years in college, till now, it has been a struggle.
Now, I can not wait to go. Today, I started packing. I started going through all the things I might have forgotten or missed. It turns out that I have been keeping up with things pretty well. Or so it seems, now. Lets hope it keeps that way.
A week from now, I will be in Philly, ready for the orientation, which they call "staging" for information of getting into Ghana. From there, my fellow Peace Corps Volunteers will be going to Ghana with me (I assume on the same plane).
When we get there, (from what I know) we get to meet the ambassador, get to visit current PCVs, and see the country for which I will be serving. This sounds great, since I want to see what it will be like to have no electricity.
To me, it would be great to have what the poorest part of the country has. To live in a small community, that has nothing but the water from the river and maybe a bike. That would be the greatest experience, to me.
Well, less than a week to go, and I will be in Philly. From then on (for two years) I will be a Health, water/sanitation educator, and I'm a Ghana go crazy!
